BMW Auto Group EWS KEYS
EWS is an acronym for the German Electronische WegfahrSperre. It is a factory installed drive away protection system. It prevents vehicles from starting without the use of the precoded transponder keys.
Cars such as BMW 3 series (e46), 5 series (e39), 7 series (e38), x3 (e83), x5 (e53), z4 (e85) and other vehicles of BMW Auto Group (ie: MiniCooper, Rover 75, Range Rover) are equipped with this EWS system.
The keys to these vehicles cannot be cloned. Each additional key must be programmed to the immobilizer system. OEM replacement equipment should be used for this purpose. Using cheap cloned equipment for this purpose is highly risky, you may well end up with a non-functioning BMW instead of just needing additional keys.
